One of the earliest and rarest of all Inauguration Ball invitations, this is an 1829 invitation to an Inauguration Ball held in Fryeburg, Maine on the day of Andrew Jackson's Inauguration as President of the United States. This is one of the earliest invitations in private hands. Includes a graphic of an American eagle and shield and arrows. The name of the recipient is included on the invitation. It appears to be for a Mr. William Cutty (or Gutty) "& Lady" as written on the front and reverse of the invitation. The event was held at Eastman's Hall in Fryeburg and lists the Managers of the event. Needless to say, this is the only one of the invitations we have seen in our 43+ years collecting and selling inaugural artifacts.
Historical Notes
President Andrew Jackson won the 1828 presidential campaign in one of the dirtiest, meanest campaigns in American history.
