This is an original and authentic button from the 1860 campaign of Abraham Lincoln for President and Hannibal Hamlin for Vice President. This is a ferrotype style button. Around the rim it says "Abraham Lincoln 1860" on the front and "Hannibal Hamlin 1860" on the reverse. The photo of President Lincoln was taken when Lincoln was beardless. A very fine example of an increasingly scare button. Holed at the top as issued, for hanging. One of the better condition buttons we have seen.
Historical Notes
A ferrotype, also known as a tintype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion.
