We are fortunate to have discovered another original of this famous edition of the Chicago Tribune of November 3, 1948. It is the complete, original and authentic newspaper in remarkable condition. If you have been searching for a truly superior example of this historic paper this is your chance. This is arguably the most famous and sought after newspaper of all time. When the decision to print this paper was made, returns were coming in very slowly and time was running out before the deadline for the edition. The Tribune staff, based on the early returns, decided Dewey would be the next President. After the newspaper was delivered to the street, more returns came in and showed that Truman would be the ultimate winner and be reelected as President. The already delivered "error" newspapers were gathered for return by staff members sent out to pick them up from newsstands and homes in the Chicago area. It also has the paragraph of type in the upside down position as all original examples have since the newspaper workers in haste to get the edition to the newsstands made the error. Original editions of this newspaper are becoming increasingly scarce. This is only the twenty fifth copy of this historic paper that we have owned in 40+ years and one of the very best in terms of condition. . Here is a description of the condition. This is the complete three section paper. It one of several owned by a family in downstate rural Illinois who received this 40 page complete rural edition early in the morning and then had the foresight to return to the store and purchase several papers. It has been stored in flat condition in a sealed box all these years which is why the center horizontal fold is in great condition and does not have the common problems with rips and tears. There is also no side edge tears or rips. Overall we would rate it as very fine. The paper is clean, consistent, and when you look at the front page you see only a very light band of toning at the center fold and along right edge. The inside pages look like they have never been opened until we photographed them. It would look excellent framed. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the most famous newspaper ever produced. Several papers in terrible condition have recently sold at auction for $1,500 or more. Ones in excellent condition are selling in the $3,000 - $4,000 range. If you are searching for one of these rare newspapers this is your chance to to acquire this highly sought after newspaper in remarkable condition at a price far less than you would likely pay at an auction house. Looks great in an office or library or is an exceptional gift item. .
