This is an original "Grand Inauguration Ball" dance card from the inauguration of President James Garfield held at the satellite location in Hyde Park, Vermont on the day of Garfield's inauguration March 4, 1881. Four page program which opens from the top.
From President Garfield's inaugural address: ‘Fellow-Citizens: We stand to-day upon an eminence which overlooks a hundred years of national life—a century crowded with perils, but crowned with the triumphs of liberty and law.’
