Interesting press credentials in the shape of a police badge issued by the Police Department City of New York. On the front is printed in bold green color "PRESIDENT" and the date March 17th with printed signatures of the police and fire commissioners. On the reverse is printed "Whitehouse Correspondent". Based on the names of the police and fire commissioners on the front, the visit was between 1946-1949. We believe that since this item was included in a group of Harry Truman items that it is probably from shortly after Truman's inauguration as President however we do not know exactly which year, although it could date from when Truman was Vice President and the reference to President refers to Franklin Roosevelt. Original.
Historical Notes
Harry Truman became America's 33rd President on April 12, 1945 upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt
