H.R. Haldeman, was best known for his service as White House Chief of Staff to President Richard Nixon and his consequent involvement in the Watergate Affair. This is a letter signed by Haldeman to Robert Nesen on Nixon for President letterhead dated July 30, 1968. Nesen was a campaign manager at the time in California. Nesen served as United States Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1972 to 1974 and as United States Ambassador to Australia from 1981 to 1985 during the Nixon and Reagan administrations. In the letter Haldeman suggests that Mr. Nesen (who was working on the Nixon for President campaign) contact a David Mulford who is President of the Associated Students of Hasings Law College in California about a role in the California youth movement. Haldeman's role in the Watergate cover-up precipitated his resignation from government; subsequent to which he was tried on counts of perjury, conspiracy and obstruction of justice; found guilty and imprisoned for 18 months.
