Not often seen small size version 1860 Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin campaign ferrotype button badge promoting Lincoln as President and Hamlin as Vice President. This version has the names "Lincoln & Hamlin" on the front where typically only "Abraham Lincoln" and 1860 are show on the front. It is also considerably smaller than the typical version and much thicker brass shell. Also includes what appears to be the original ring still attached. This is seldom seen version with photo of Lincoln on the front and the names Lincoln & Hamlin on the front and on the reverse is Hamlin's photo and simply the date 1860 with stars surrounding. Historical Notes
Ferrotype - this term is used to describe a particular type of campaign item used mostly in the 1860’s and 1870’s. The item consists of a photo on tin encased or attached to a brass shell. In some cases, a ferrotype may have tin photos on both sides of the item. Others may have a stickpin on one side for attaching to clothing. Some ferrotypes include the candidates name and/or year on the out brass shell.
