Scarce sign from the second inauguration of Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon as President and Vice President of the United States. These no parking signs were placed along the inaugural parade route warning motorists not to park along the presidential inauguration parade route from midnight January 20 to midnight January 21, 1957. After this inauguration the signs were made in metal for each inaugural, but during 1957 the signs were made of cardboard and attached with string to sign posts which is why so few of them still exist and those that are did not stand up as well to the outdoors as the metal ones. Cool collectible from President Eisenhower's inauguration. Funny thing is the original string is still attached at the bottom. The 20th Amendment to the Constitution set January 20th as the official inaugural date. Because January 20, 1957 fell on a Sunday, President Eisenhower took the oath of office for his second term in a private White House ceremony. He repeated the oath and was formally inaugurated again in public on Monday, January 21 at the inaugural ceremonies held on the east portico of the White House. The oath was administered by Chief Justice Earl Warren both times.
Historical Notes
January 20 falls on a Sunday four times in the twenty-first century; 2013, 2041, 2069, and 2097. It always occurs every 28 years.
