Interesting Christmas card sent by the Russian Ambassador Menshikov of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1959. Includes the gold embossed raised seal of at the top. But what is more interesting, is the front of the card which salutes three historic dates in Russian space exploration in the the U.S. vs Soviet space race. The first reference is to January 2, 1959 the date listed as the first cosmic rocked launched. The second date is September 12, 1959, listed as the first man-made projectile to land on the moon, and the third date of October, 4 1959 the third cosmic rocked was launched, which circumnavigated the moon and "now is in orbit around the earth". Original and scarce.
Historical Notes
On Sept. 14, 1959, the Luna 2 space probe crashed onto the surface of the moon. Though Luna 2 was shattered on impact, the mission was a major success, as it represented an important first in the history of space exploration
