1857 James Buchanan Inaugural Ball Invitation

This is an original invitaton to the 1857 Inauguration of James Buchanan as Pesident of the United States. One of the earliest examples of an inaugral invitation we have ever seen. This invitation is to the Grand National Inauguration Ball held on inauguration day March 4, 1857 Features engraving of Buchanan in the center and a list of Managers for the event in the center. The invitation is address ed a Mr or Mrs Keyes (difficult to read the name). Very good condition for its age, toning along the edges, no rips or tears. On the reverse someone wrote in pencil a list of names including James Buchanan our guest is that this was a list of people sitting at his table at the event.
