Set of two campaign buttons promoting Ted Kennedy (brother of John F. Kennedy) for President. Ted Kennedy’s last chance to unseat President Jimmy Carter in 1980 was to try and gain votes at the Democratic National Convention from the 2,000 delegates who’d already been committed to Jimmy Carter during the primaries. The effort failed, and Carter won the Democratic nomination. These are two identical large buttons except that there are two color varieties. The darker one is the one typically seen. The lighter one we have not seen before.
Historical Notes
The delegates were bound by Democratic Rule F3C, requiring them to vote for whomever they’d been pledged, The rule was eliminated two years later.
