| Description:
This postcard was postmarked on the day of the public
inaugural of Woodrow Wilson as President of the United
States March 5, 1917. Since March 4th (the traditional
date at that time for inaugurations) was on a Sunday,
the actual public ceremony was held on March 5th. The
front of the postcard shows The White House in color.
The reverse side has the March 5, 1917 Washington D.C.
postmark. The card is pencil addressed to a recipient in
Pennsylvania. The card is published by The
Washington News Co., Washington D.C. and includes an 11
line inscription about The White House. The words
"Inauguration Day" have been typed in at the top of the
card. Pre-Roosevelt inauguration covers are extremely
rare especially when they are postmarked in Washington
D.C. and carry a presidential related theme for the
postcard. We will be offering
this rare postcard at auction in the weeks to come. If
you would like us to let you know when the card is at
auction please drop us an email at
lori@loriferber.com
and I will be happy to let you know.
