Outstanding unused Civil War patriotic envelope featuring a large outstretched hand labeled "W.S." dismissing a tiny winged figure identified as "J.D." carrying a skull-and-crossbones flag. The caption, "This tells its own story," requires little explanation, portraying Jefferson Davis and the Confederate cause as insignificant before Union strength. Unused and original.

Northern Democrats who opposed Lincoln's war policies were frequently branded "Copperheads" by Union supporters. Patriotic envelopes such as this reflected the fierce political divisions within the North, where critics of the war were often portrayed as aiding the Confederacy despite remaining citizens of the United States.
