Liberia U.S. Presidents Stamp Sheets Including Al Gore Error. In 2000, the country of Liberia mistakenly issued postage stamps and souvenir sheets depicting Al Gore as the 43rd U.S. President, due to confusion over the, 2000 election results and hanging chads. These "error" stamps, o were meant to honor the winner of the election but were released during the recount period. Supposedly, Liberia quickly recalled and destroyed most, but some entered the market. We believe this was a likely commercial attempt to capitalize on the confusing election. Regardless of whether this was truly a mistake, an attempt to cover both possibilities or a commercial attempt to create additional error value, it is still historically interesting.
The set includes the postage stamp sheets with presidents starting with George Washington. Also included are full sheets of all identical George W. Bush stamps (plus a smaller single sheet) and the same for Al Gore, with both the Bush and Al Gore sheets identifying each as the 43rd President of the United States.
Stamps and sheets incorrectly identified Al Gore (then Vice President) as the "43rd President of the United States
