Civil War Patriotic Cover – America Against the World – Eagle & Clock Design. Unusual Civil War-era patriotic envelope featuring a striking black engraved illustration of an American eagle perched above a large clock, surrounded by the words "AMERICA AGAINST THE WORLD." The clock's hands point to approximately nine o'clock, adding an intriguing element to this distinctive design.
An interesting departure from the traditional flags, military portraits, and patriotic slogans commonly found on Civil War covers. Unused, with some age toning and scattered discoloration. Unused and original.
From a huge collection of patriotic Civil War covers (envelopes) we recently acquired.
Civil War patriotic envelopes employed a remarkable variety of symbols to express national pride, loyalty, and determination. The eagle was a familiar emblem of American strength, while clocks and other symbolic devices occasionally appeared in more imaginative designs. The precise significance of the clock on this particular envelope remains uncertain.
