Rare 1832 Andrew Jackson Silk Proclamation Broadside with Striking Eagle Motif. An exceptional political artifact from the Nullification Crisis, this original 1832 large silk broadside features President Andrew Jackson’s powerful Proclamation to the People of South Carolina, boldly defending the Union. Produced by the Hartford Times shortly after its issuance, the piece is highlighted by a dramatic large eagle illustration at the top. Printed on silk—an uncommon and prestigious format—it remains in very good condition, with only a small hole at the top right (not affecting the image) and minor fraying at the edges. A rare and historic item suitable for discerning collectors, museums, or libraries seeking early American political documents. Original, of course.

Details

President Andrew Jackson issued this proclamation  December 10, 1832 in direct response to South Carolina's Ordinance of Nullification, which declared that the federal tariffs of 1828 and 1832 were unconstitutional and therefore null and void within South Carolina.

Jackson's proclamation asserted the supremacy of the federal government and the illegality of nullification and secession. It was a forceful defense of the Union.
