1860s Civil War Cover "Evacuation of Harper's Ferry". The Evacuation of Harpers Ferry in 1861 saw Union forces abandon the strategically vital town after destroying armory facilities, reflecting early-war confusion and the immense importance of controlling transportation corridors in the border states. Original and Unused.
From the collection of Civil War patriotic covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
Located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, Harpers Ferry changed hands repeatedly during the Civil War. Its evacuation highlighted the vulnerability of isolated garrisons and foreshadowed the town’s later, dramatic capture by Confederate forces under Stonewall Jackson in 1862.
