1888 Cleveland vs Harrison "The Cruel War is Over" & "Campaign Reminiscence" Framed Judge Magazine. Set of two framed original collectibles with exquisite color images. From the November 10, 1888 first issue immediately after the election.
Frame #1: “Victor” [directly below Cleveland – “Victor” The unifying caption at the centerfold’s bottom center: “THE CRUEL WAR IS OVER. / Judge – ‘Well, boys, it has been a tough fight. Shake hands. Both couldn’t win.” Fabulous caricatures of Cleveland (wearing mini “My Grandfather’s” top hat) preparing to shake hands with Harrison (wearing an immense “My Grandfather’s” top hat; each with a campaign cane or umbrella, and each with a handkerchief with “Thurman” or Morton”; between them is “JUDGE” welcoming them to shake hands.
Frame #2. "A Compaign Reminiscence." Left side: Cleveland & Thurman campaign rally with crowd sporting campaign helmets, hats, torches, and a “Democratic Orator” proclaiming: “What does the Republican party, the low-lived adherents of which are assembled in yonder hall across the street, what does that offer you for your vote? What? Why, f-r-e-e W-h-i-s-k-e-y! And now ---------“
Right side: the same crowd, apparently having abandoned the Cleveland street rally and now squeezing through the tavern door of the “RALLY HARRISON & MORTON” for the free whiskey. The caption (with artist clearly noted as “Hamilton”: “(Fifty seconds after the aforesaid speech [re free whiskey]) “This represents the door leading to the room in which the low-lived adherents are assembled. The confused mass in door-way represents the Democratic meeting, which has come en masse to investigate the truth of the ‘Free Whiskey’ offer.”
