The slogan "Start Packing" became one of the most enduring themes in American presidential campaign memorabilia, appearing in campaigns from Wendell Willkie through Nixon, Carter, and beyond. Based on current published references and period newspaper research, this 1940 "Eleanor Start Packing – The Willkies Are Coming" button appears to represent the earliest documented use of the slogan in a presidential campaign.
