1853 Rare Franklin Pierce Inauguration Ball Event Silk. A truly rare item from the 1953 inauguration of the 14th President of United States, Franlkin Pierce.  After the gruesome death of their son in a train accident,  which was witnessed by both Pierce and his wife, Pierce cancelled the traditional Inauguration Ball in Washington, D.C. which is why no programs from the Washington event are known to exist. However, this artifact remains from a satellite Inauguration Ball to be held in Portland Maine, on March 4, 1853.

At the top of the silk, is the image of a bald eagle grasping the american flag, with the words "Inauguration Ball! March 4, 1853 underneath. Below that is a list of managers of the 17 managers of the event. Then the text "Banquet, at Lancaster Hall Dining Rooms" in ornamental style type. Below that is the menu for the event.

Truly a rare inaugural collectible that is rarely seen.
