The Mountain Road Lottery was led by George Washington and in 1768 and the funds were going to be used to build a road in Virginia thru the Allegheny Mountains. Lotteries were common at the time,and a young George Washington was involved in several of them. This one failed to achieve its goal and King George III banned all lotteries two years later.
