1887 Grover Cleveland Club Temperance Hall Grand Social Program. Engraving of Grover Cleveland on the front cover. The event was billed as a the first Grand Social for the Sixth Ward Cleveland Club and held on November 11th 1887 at Temperance Hall "For the purpose of procuring funds to enable them to build a Wigmam" (yes, that is what it says!) 8 pages. Original.
In the late 19th century, many towns and cities across the United States had buildings named "Temperance Hall." These halls were associated with the temperance movement, which advocated for the reduction or prohibition of alcohol consumption. They were used for meetings, lectures, and other activities promoting the cause of temperance.
