1888 Harrison & Morton “Protection & Prosperity” Campaign Bandana with Manufacturer’s H.D.K.F. Mark. Vibrant red-and-white Harrison and Morton campaign bandanna from the 1888 presidential race, featuring the bold slogan “Protection & Prosperity” with matching pro-tariff messages along the borders. The center medallion reads “Our Choice – Harrison and Morton,” surrounded by a striking field of stars. Each corner includes a star marked “Republican Banner H.D.K.F.,” the production initials of the textile manufacturer that supplied Republican clubs during the campaign. Printed on light cotton and measuring the classic yard-square format, this is one of the most visually appealing textiles of the era and a standout display piece for Gilded Age political collectors. Original.
In 1888, Benjamin Harrison’s Republican campaign centered on protective tariffs, arguing that high duties preserved American industry and ensured “the highest wages in the world.” Bandannas like this one were produced in large quantities for rallies and parades, promoting the twin messages of economic nationalism and industrial prosperity.
