1860s John Bell "Traitor" Pro-Union Patriotic Civil War Cover With Printer Error.  John Bell was labeled a traitor by Union supporters after abandoning his earlier moderation and backing the Confederacy in 1861. Despite campaigning for president as a Unionist in 1860, Bell ultimately sided with Tennessee’s secession, angering northerners who saw his shift as a profound betrayal of the Union cause. Folded down from letterhead size ruled paper to cover/envelope size.  This cover (envelope) features an illustration of Bell with the word "Traitor" misspelled by the printer as "Trator". To the right of the illustration is a patriotic red, white and blue flag image with the slogan "Stand By The Flat. Original and unused.

From a large collection of civil war patriotic covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
