1965 LBJ Inaugural Day Reception Invitation Set – AFL-CIO Labor Leaders.

Original four-piece invitation group relating to the January 20, 1965 Inaugural Day Reception held during the inauguration festivities of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The reception was hosted by the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, AFL-CIO, under the direction of famed labor leader David Dubinsky, and was held in the South American Room of the Statler-Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The invitation was addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Keenan of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, reflecting the close ties between major organized labor organizations and the Democratic Party during the Johnson era. Included are the formal invitation, RSVP card, return envelope, and original mailing envelope postmarked January 5, 1965.

While not one of the large official inaugural committee balls or galas, this is an appealing and historically interesting labor-related inaugural item connecting two influential union organizations during the height of LBJ’s presidency and the Great Society era.

An attractive and seldom-seen grouping tied to organized labor and the 1965 Johnson inauguration.
