1896 Classic Mckinley Hobart Canvas & Wood Campaign Umbrella. Images of McKinley and Hobart from their 1896 presidential and vice presidential campaign with the campaign slogans of "Protection" and "Sound Money" beneath each portrait. Condition is similar to other examples of these hard to find early campaign umbrellas. Even still has the attached fabric piece to wrap around and secure the umbrella. Certainly a statement piece. Original.

Details

McKinley's opponent, Democrat William Jennings Bryan, traveled extensively and gave hundreds of speeches in his campaign. Despite this difference in approach, McKinley won the election with 271 electoral votes to Bryan's 176.
