Unusual Nixon “Of the People – For the People” campaign button featuring a distinctly caricatured portrait of Nixon. Although the slogan is plainly supportive, the exaggerated portrait gives the piece an unusual satirical appearance. We believe it was intended as a pro-Nixon button, although its precise origin is unknown.
There may also be a Lincoln reference lurking in the slogan. “Of the people, by the people, for the people” is of course from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
