1896 Scarce People's Party (Populist Party) National Convention Press Ribbon Badge. The convention nominated William Jennings Bryan for President over the objection of a faction within the party and is often credited witht causing the start of the demise of the party. Issued to a member of the Press. Inscribed "PRESS People's Party National Convention St. Louis July 22nd 1896. Won't win any beauty pageants as it is hard to read the type but a version of these scarce convention press badge that we can't say we have ever seen before. Original.
While the convention endorsed William Jennings Bryan for President, it endorsed Thomas E. Watson for Vice President instead of Bryan's choice of Arthur Sewall for Vice President.
