Moving and authentic handwritten letter from future President Ronald Reagan, written in 1957 during his years as a rising public figure in California. Addressed to Norman W. Raies of Portland, Oregon, Reagan expresses heartfelt sorrow over “the tragic passing of a fine young man” and extends sympathy to the young man’s mother. Signed simply “RR,” the letter is entirely in Reagan’s hand and framed with a handsome color portrait and descriptive plaque. Reagan provided this handwritten draft to his assistant for typing and mailing.
Professionally matted and framed under archival glass. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity and 100% guarantee of genuineness.
Before entering politics, Ronald Reagan was known nationwide as an actor and spokesman for General Electric. By the late 1950s, his public correspondence revealed the compassion and eloquence that would later define his presidency. This letter offers a rare glimpse into Reagan’s empathy and sincerity long before his election as Governor of California in 1966 and President in 1980. Handwritten letters from this early period are especially prized by collectors of presidential and Hollywood history.
