  1. Dewey Defeats Truman 11 17 Newspapers 1

Dewey Defeats Truman Original & Authentic Newspaper In Very Fine Condition

    $1,995.00

We are fortunate to have discovered yet another original of this famous edition of the Chicago Tribune of November 3, 1948. It is the complete, original and authentic newspaper. This is arguably the most famous and sought after newspaper of all time. When the decision to print this paper was made, returns were coming in very slowly and time was running out before the deadline for the edition. The Tribune staff, based on the early returns, decided Dewey would be the next President. After the newspaper was delivered to the street, more returns came in and showed that Truman would be the ultimate winner and be reelected as President. The already delivered "error" newspapers were gathered for return by staff members sent out to pick them up from newsstands and homes in the Chicago area. It also has the paragraph of type in the upside down position as all original examples have since the newspaper workers in haste to get the edition to the newsstands made the error. Original editions of this newspaper are becoming increasingly scarce, especially complete examples like this one. Here is a description of the condition. This is the full and complete newspaper.. Overall we would rate the condition as Very Fine. The front cover displays well and would look even better framed. The coloring is consistent with only minor spots of toning. It has some very typical and minor tearing at the edges and in the center of the horizontal fold. The value of these historic newspapers is generally valued based on, overall coloring, tears and rips, completeness and any other faults. As is true with most vintage newspapers, some toning and edge tears are to be expected, especially from newspapers that are over 60 years old This is an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the most famous newspaper ever produced. Several papers in terrible condition have sold at auction for $2,000 or more. Ones in excellent condition are selling in the $3,000 - $4,000 range. If you are searching for one of these rare newspapers this is your chance to to acquire this highly sought after newspaper at a very good price since it is not in pristine condition. Looks great in an office or library or is an exceptional gift item. . Learn More
  2. G.o.p.wins White House Newspaper

Dewey Defeats Truman Newspaper GOP Wins White House

    $395.00

This is an original complete Chicago Daily Tribune from November 3, 1948. Perhaps the most recognizable headline of the 20th century is that which appeared on the front page of this title and date--but an earlier edition. The earlier edition read "Dewey Defeats Truman", made famous by the photo showing Harry S. Truman smiling and holding that famous newspaper. This is the "Final" days edition printed the very same day but after the the editors softened the phrasing proclaiming Dewey the victor, but still unaware of the true final outcome of the election, by proclaiming: "G.O.P. WINS WHITE HOUSE". Includes the text "Dewey and Warren swept the country in the Presidential election yesterday. The early returns indicated that the Republican ticket had won by an overwhelming majority of electoral votes. President Truman went down to defeat with few states outside of the south..." . The infamous text in the right column that was incorrectly placed upside down has been corrected in this edition. This the complete newspaper. It has obvious trips and tears, but given the difficulty in finding this companion edition to the earlier "Dewey Defeats Truman", still very collectible. The edges of the paper have some tears as well as the typical pulling at the center horizontal fold. At the right extreme horizontal fold there is a tear where there is paper loss, but when paper is displayed folded, it is hardly noticeable. This later addition is extremely hard to find but is not as well known as the famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline. Actually, this is only the fifth copy of this edition we have owned in the past 40+ years. So, not in the best condition, but priced accordingly Learn More

  5. Dewey Defeats Truman Spoof Button

Dewey Defeats Truman Spoof Clinton Button

    $8.95

This is a clever campaign button from the 1992 presidential campaign of Bill Clinton for President. Produced after the vote electing Clinton was concluded, the button lampoons naysayers who said then President George H.W. Bush would defeat Bill Clinton in Bush's re-election campaign. The button features President Harry Truman holding up a copy of the famous Chicago Daily Tribune newspaper that erroneously reported that Dewey had beaten Harry Truman in the 1948 presidential election, but instead of proclaiming "Dewey Defeats Truman" as the original newspaper did, this one proclaims "Bush Defeats Clinton". 8. The Buck Shops Here Executive Desk Plaque

Iconic The Buck Stops Here Desk Plaque - Harry Truman

    $59.95

The iconic "The Buck Stops Here" desk plaque was proudly displayed on President Harry Truman's desk in his White House office beginning in 1945. The original sign was crafted at the Federal Reformatory in El Reno, Oklahoma. Great gift item that is perfect for the collector or the executive that wants to make a point. The phrase "the buck stops here" has its history in the expression "pass the buck" which denotes passing the responsibility on to someone else. The reverse of the sign appears with the original slogan "i'm from Missouri" During President Truman's time as President of the United States he often referred to the design in public speeches in order to make it clear that he alone is prepared to make the tough decisions. That is his job as President. Very nice wooden desk frame with painted sign measuring approximately 13" wide by 1 3/4" wide. Great for an executive desk gift! Learn More
  9. Madam President Hillary Clinton Newsweek Magazine Error For Sale

2016 Hillary Clinton Madam President Error Newsweek Magazine

    $85.00

Is this the next Dewey Defeats Truman? We doubt it. But this special edition of Newsweek magazine featuring Hillary Clinton winning the November 8, 2016 election is surely going to be a collectible item. While it won't reach the return on investment that the Dewey Defeats Truman achieved (4 cents to $3,000), we wouldn't be surprised if the value did increase in the future. As is customary, Newweek actually subcontracted out the production of this magazine. Two versions were produced in advance. One, to be sold if Donald Trump won and one if Hillary Clinton won. Since it was assumed at the time that Clinton would win, a large print run was ordered before election day with Madam President on the cover. After the electon results became clear, Clinton copies were soon recalled from newsstands, but quite a few remained in circulation. To take advantage of the error the price for these magazines initially skyrocketed to thousands of dollars each. Some of our customers contacted us looking to purchase one. We told our customers "wait, the prices will come down, and when they do come down to a reasonable level we will offer them for sale". Learn More
  10. Reagan Ford Newspaper Error

1980 Newspaper Error Taps Ford As Reagan VP

    $75.00

Original Sun-Times newspaper from Chicago that proclaimed Gerald Ford as Ronald Reagan's running mate in 1980 instead of George H.W. Bush, just as the Republican GOP Convention was set to start. Shades of Dewey Defeats Truman, in fact this newspaper is again from Chicago just like the famous newspaper error that announced Thomas Dewey had defeated Harry Truman for the presidency. The front page headline states: "It's Reagan and Ford - Former President Agrees to VP Deal" Certainly a scarce collectors item, but not nearly as popular as the Dewey Defeats Truman error - at least not yet! • I appreciate everything - the speedy response, the customer service, and of course, the product itself. Often, I'm skeptical and think that online testimonials only post the positive feedback, or even make up feedback. I can tell from the service I received that not only were these testimonials legitimate (just like your products), but it is likely they are all so positive because I can't imagine you getting a negative review. Thank you so much. It was a pleasure working with you. This is how customer service is supposed to look and it is so refreshing! I'll certainly be back to purchase additional gifts for my history-buff boyfriend in the future.

  • Lori: Thank you ever so much for the Presidential Inaugural Invitation. I was moved because it means so very much to me.
