Rare Thatcher Ferry Bridge, Linking The Americas - Uniendo Las Americas, Panama Canal 1962 Large Bridge Spanning The Panama Canal, Ship Underneath) Reverse is blank with brown belt pad. Bronze medal measuring , 2 ½” diameter, uncirculated. Mintage of 1020 pieces in this metal. The Panama Canal Company had the medals struck by the Medallic Art Company of New York (MACO) from a design by John R. Terken. The Medallic Art Company signature along with Bronze are incuse on the edge. Julius Grigore, Jr. in his catalog of Panamanian coins and medals notes “The 2 ½“ diameter bronze medals were only for official presentations by the Panama Canal Company, which included the Presidents of the United States and Panama“. The defaced dies are in the Canal Zone Library and Museum in Balboa, Panama. You sometimes see this medal in aluminum which is much more common. Original. Also, the original Medallic Art box is included, although a prior owner did write "Panama Bridge Medallion 1962 on the top).
