This historic original item, a Gallery admittance ticket issued by George T. Brown, Sergeant At Arms of the United States Senate, to the impeachment proceedings of a president of the United states, Andrew Johnson. The impeachement trial of President Andrew Johnson was an historic event in 1868. The ticket is an yellow gold color ticket dated April 7th 1868 and is in very good condition with the original stub still attached.TIckets with stubs are becoming increasing scarce since, as it says on the stub, the stub was meant "to be taken up at Main Entrance" of the U.S. Senate. Gallery admittance card issued by George T.Brown, Sergeant At Arms of the United States Senate, to the sole impeachment proceedings of a president of the United states, Andrew Johnson.
Historical Notes
"Resolution passed the House of Representatives for Impeachment on February 24, 1868. Trial before the Senate lasted three months at the conclusion of which Andrew Johnson was acquitted on May 16, 1868 by vote of 35 for conviction to 19 for acquittal. The necessary 2/3 vote for impeachment was not obtained."
