Very nice and very interesting rosette featuring a celluloid disc with photograph of Fremont in uniform inside an ornate rim border attached to a rosette ribbon with the words "Fremont and Dayton 1856". Large 7 1/2" size. We have never seen this item before and despite an exhaustive search of our reference materials we could not find any information on this item. After much discussion with several very knowledgeable members of the American Political Items Collectors organization we have all concluded that it is was likely produced in the late 1800's or 1906 as a commemorative item or possibly a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Item. Either way it is very attractive and very collectible. Fremont was defeated in the election of 1856 by James Buchanan. Original.
