8th Annual Townsend Convention 1948 Button and Ribbons. Unusual collectible from the Townsend convention of 1948. Unusual from the sense that it has four parts to it all tied together. The convention button at the top, a blue on light silver ribbon that says "Visiting" and a gold on blue ribbon that identifies the attendee as being from New York, and a real photo button of Townsend attached to the left ribbon. Original.
The Townsend Convention of 1948, also known as the National Convention of the Townsend National Recovery Plan, was held in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The convention took place from July 14 to July 16, 1948. It was organized by supporters of the Townsend Plan, a social security proposal that called for a monthly pension for all Americans over the age of 60. The convention aimed to discuss and promote the plan and gather support for its implementation.
