1860 Scarce Abraham Lincoln & Hannibal Hamlin "Rail Splitter' Campaign Cover Variety.  An exceptional and seldom-seen 1860 Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin presidential envelope (cover) featuring a youthful, beardless illustration of Lincoln together with a dramatic "rail spitter" scene depicting Lincoln at work outside a log cabin.

The elaborate patriotic design identifies Abraham Lincoln for President and Hannibal Hamlin for Vice-President, with an American eagle, flags and decorative framing. beneath the rail splitter scene appears the quotation "Constitution and the Union - Harmony and Prosperity to all." - Lincoln.

Published by S. Raynor, Envelope Manufacturer, New York, whose imprint horizontally along the lower edge. This appears to be a design variety since other examples are known with the manufacturer's imprint positioned vertically along the left edge and with the eagle place above, rather than beneath, Lincoln's portrait.

The beardless portrait is especially evocative of Lincoln's 1860 campaign image before he grew the beard that would become inseparable from his presidential appearance.

A scarce and visually impressive piece of Lincoln campaign ephemera combining several of the most enduring images associated with his rise to the presidency.
