From the text of the National Press Club address, "Back in April in a hospital I had, as you can readily understand, a of time for refelction. ANd one day i decided to send a personal handwritten letter to Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev, reminding him that we had met about ten years ago in San Clemente, California, as he and President Nixon were concluding a series of meeting that had brought hope to all the world. Never had peace and good will seemed closer at hand."
