Something unusual for your Roosevelt and Garner collection. Certainly something you don't see every day. These wooden "ad mats" was used in the printing process to create a printing plate for either ads to appear in newspapers or campaign materials. Sometimes called a stereotype matrix or wood at mat and are difficult to read since they were not the final product, just one of the steps in the printing process. Includes two mats, one for Franklin Roosevelt and one for James Garner. They were sent to a California newspaper during the 1932 presidential campaign for use in an ad promoting FDR and Garner. It is difficult to see the image since these ad mats were produced in such a way that the photos are recessed and difficult to see until ink is applied. Original.
