Official Inaugural Medal from the election of William Howard Taft as President and James Sherman as Vice President, of the United States. 51 mm. Medalist was Joseph K. Davison & Sons. A limited quantity of 3,000 medals were originally issued, far fewer remain in circulation today, especially in this fine condition. This particular medal is engraved on the edge to Kathleen McCarthy and has a pinback added to the reverse of the medal years ago -probably right after the inauguration. We have not seen this done before for this year medal, so we are assuming it was added after the inauguration either as a gift or some type of honor. Interesting and unusual.
Details
The new President took his oath on the Supreme Court Bible, which he used again in 1921 to take his oaths as the Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court. An inaugural ball that evening was held at the Pension Building.
