This is the scarce and well known "Stand Up for Alabama" Lurleen Wallace for Governor campaign button from 1966. Considered one of the premier Wallace buttons. George Wallace was prohibited from serving another term as governor of Alabama, so he devised a plan to let his wife Lurleen run in his place and continue his position in state politics in Alabama. Although Lurleen was the one running for office, it generally understood that it was really George Wallace who was running for office.In fact, if you look closely at the button you will notice that George Wallace's photo is actually more prominent and larger than the photo of his wife.
