Includes illustration of Miss Liberty holding a staff or spear bearing a banner reading UNION". Printed for use in Union County, Ohio. Union County ballot tickets are not often seen. Original.
During the 1864 presidential election, political parties printed and distributed their own pre-printed ballots, commonly called tickets. Voters simply deposited the ticket of their chosen party into the ballot box. Because ballots were not secret, party loyalty was public, and electioneering at polling places was widespread.
