Rare and original 7 star Maryland State Centennial Pennant 1878. Maryland became the 7th State in 1778. Superb and rare piece of original Americana. Made from heavy weight felt with a silk type fringe. The 7 stars are reference to Maryland becoming the 7th state to ratify the constitution. Hand sewing and machine sewing throughout. May be hung horizontally or vertically. The Centennial took place during the term of Rutherford B. Hayes and planning began in 1777 during the term of Ulysses S. Grant.
Maryland officiallly became a state, April 28, 1878 after ratifying the Constitution. In 1776 Maryland adopted a state constitution.
