The 25th Massachusetts Volunteers organized at Camp Lincoln in Worcester during the fall of 1861 before departing for service in the Civil War. Surviving headquarters transportation forms from this brief training period are scarce.

The 25th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was organized at Worcester’s Camp Lincoln in 1861 and later served with distinction in the Union Army during campaigns in North Carolina and Virginia. Administrative ephemera such as headquarters passes and transportation authorizations were intended for temporary wartime use and were rarely preserved, making surviving examples desirable Civil War paper collectibles today.
