A beautifully and very rare engraved invitation to the newly inaugurated 18th President Ulysses S. Grant and Vice President Shuyler Colfax inaugural reception ball. It was held at the United States Treasury Building at Washington D.C. on the evening of March 4th 1869. Lists the General Committee members, among them noted Generals from the Civil War- Sherman, Hunter, Webb, Porter, Bailery, Morgan, Schenck, Michler and others. In small print at bottom it lists the engraver A. R. Waud and printer Philip & Solomons, Washington, D.C.

This was a lavish affair as Grant as the leader of the Union Army was considered the hero and winner of the Civil War. The ball so over flowed with people that his next Inauguration Ball was held outside in tents.
