January 20 occurred on a Sunday, so the President took the actual oath of office in the East Room at the White House on that morning. The next day he repeated the oath of office on the East Portico of the Capitol in Washington D.C. . Chief Justice Earl Warren administered the oath of office balls followed the ceremony.
