Attractive red-and-blue design with strong patriotic symbolism. Not often seen cover with a great design, especially in this very fine condition. Unused and original.
Part of the large collection of Civil War historical covers that we recently acquired.
This patriotic design combines martial imagery and verse to celebrate the Union cause. The figure carrying the American flag appears to stand triumphantly above the water while proclaiming that treason—meaning secession—would ultimately fail. Such optimistic imagery was common in Northern patriotic stationery.
