This medal was struck in recognition of Robert F. Kennedy for his distinguished and dedicated service to the government and people of the United States. This medal is a bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal received by Mrs. Ethel Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy's widow, on behalf of her husband in a ceremony at the White House on June 5, 1981.Bronze. The front was designed and sculpted by Michael G. Iacocca, United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver, and was prepared from photographs provided by Mrs. Ethel Kennedy. It features a profile of Robert F. Kennedy with the inscription "ROBERT FRANCIS KENNEDY" and the dates "1925-1968." The reverse was designed and sculpted by Edgar Z. Steever, United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver, and features an eagle perched upon a shield with an olive branch and arrows held in its talons. This rendition was taken from the Department of Justice official seal. The words, "MAKE GENTLE THE LIFE OF THE WORLD," are inscribed around the lower border. Includes the velvet style cobalt blue color display box from the United States Mint.

Robert Kennedy was Attorney General during his brother JFK's administration. He later served as a U.S. Senator and was assassinated during his run for the presidency
