The Dan Hansen Collection
Dan Hansen has been a passionate collector of political and presidential history for over fifty years. But Dan did not stop there. Twenty-five years ago he purchased Michigan’s Lakeshore Bed and Breakfast and outfitted each room in the 6,500 sq ft estate with items from his presidential collection.
Visitors could choose to sleep with the President of their choice, including in the Lincoln Room, Gerald Ford Room, Kennedy Room, Reagan Room and of course the Presidential Suite. Each one was tastefully decorated with unique and interesting artifacts from Dan’s extraordinary collection.
Dan and his lovely wife Jackie’s attention to detail was evident in the decoration of their Bed and Breakfast where they took great pride and joy in opening their doors to hosted tours for visitors and community organizations alike. That attention to detail and quality spilled over to Dan’s political collection. If the item was unique and in superior condition, then Dan wanted it.
Sadly, Dan and Jackie closed on the sale of their B&B this month and Dan has made the painful decision to sell the collection that he so carefully acquired over the last five decades, from many of the top auction houses, dealers and private collections.
We are honored to have been selected to handle the sale of Dan’s collection, which includes hundreds and hundreds of items, including many one-of-kind or seldom seen items. Whether it’s an actual presidential paycheck issued to Calvin Coolidge, Woodrow Wilson’s personal eyeglasses, a strand of George Washington’s hair, White House China, the 1933 FDR Inaugural license plate, or a monogrammed shirt worn by Ronald Reagan, you will find these and many more in this amazing collection.
Because of the size and breadth of Dan’s collection we will be offering these items, in addition to our regular offerings, over the coming months, many of which will be featured in our weekly Sunday emails, and others in our “Newly Listed pages”.
