"General Boar-A-Guard On Duty" Satirical Union Civil War Historical Cover. The cover lampooned the confederate general P.G.T. Beauregard. Original, and unused. Produced by the New York Union Envelope Depot, 144 Broadway.
From a large collection of civil war patriotic covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
These patriotic envelopes (covers) use patriotic slogans to express hope for reunion and end the conflict, sometimes using allegorical figures or references to the Founders, making them historical artifacts of wartime sentiment.
