Civil War Satirical Cover – "Secession" Bubble & "Treason" Cartoon. Political cartoons played a major role in shaping public opinion during the Civil War. Here, the artist portrays secession as nothing more than a fragile bubble destined to burst, while the figure's foundation is literally "TREASON." Such visual satire was immediately understood by Northern audiences and became a popular form of wartime propaganda. Unused and original.
From the huge collection of Civil War historical covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
Scarce humorous Civil War patriotic cover depicting a grotesque figure blowing a soap bubble labeled "SECESSION" while standing atop a base marked "TREASON." A clever piece of Union political satire ridiculing the Confederacy and suggesting that secession was little more than an empty illusion.
