1888 "Unconditional Republican Club" Albany New York Campaign Ribbon. Benjamin Harrison was the Republican party nominee for President in the 1888 election who went on to defeat Grover Cleveland by a 233 to 168 electoral vote count. The Unconditional Republican Club was active in Albany New York, beginning in 1868. Original red on gold ribbon.
During the late 19th century, political clubs and organizations were common, and they often played a significant role in supporting political parties and candidates. The use of the term "Unconditional Republican" might have reflected a strong and unwavering support for the Republican Party and its principles.
